BUSINESS AND TOURIST VISAS (B1/B2)

Most Swedish citizens going to the US for tourism or business will be able to travel without a visa on the Visa Waiver Program. Click here for more information.

Applicants for nonimmigrant visas must be interviewed in person. In order to receive an appointment, please click here to Book an Appointment.

An applicant and all derivative applicants (e.g. family members traveling with the principal applicant) must be physically present in Sweden at the time of the application.

Applications for tourist and business visas should also include (1) a letter from the applicant’s employer; (2) a current bank statement or other evidence to show that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover the costs of the trip and intends to depart the U.S. at the end of the visit.

Please note that the Embassy drop-box does no longer exist.

For extended length tourist trips the applicant should include:

•a detailed travel plan;

•a current bank statement or other evidence to show that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover the costs of the trip; and

•letters of invitation from friends or family with whom the applicant intends to stay during his/her trip.

Where the applicant plans to stay for a substantial period of time with a U.S. family, the Consular Section may also request a notarized statement from the U.S. family’s head of household guaranteeing that the applicant will not be working for the U.S. family as an au pair or other domestic employee.

Please note that because of new security regulations, some applications may require an interview and up to 2 months for processing. Since the application process cannot be accelerated we recommend prospective travelers to apply well in advance. Applicants should refrain from calling the Embassy merely to inquire about the status of their application until the full processing time has expired. We also strongly recommend that applicants not purchase airplane tickets or make nonrefundable travel arrangements until they have actually received their visa; visa applicants should never assume their application will be automatically approved.
