NONIMMIGRANT VISA UNIT
VISA FOR OFFICIAL TRAVEL
Anybody traveling to the United States on official government business, i.e. when your trip is financed by any government agency, or by an International Organization, needs an official visa.
These types of visas are free of charge and generally do not require the applicant to visit the Embassy.
Please contact your agency’s protocol office or send the following to us by mail:
- VALID PASSPORT: The original passport is required. Please note that some Swedish passports are of bad quality (this applies mostly to passports issued 1998-2000) and that if the ID-page is starting to fall out, or even if it only has a little crack in it, you must apply for a new passport before you come for an interview. Please check if the passport cracks by bending it a few times.
- ONE PHOTOGRAPH (Attached to your DS-156 Form): Color or black and white, less than six months old, 5x5cm, against a white background, where you are facing the camera directly. Please note that Home Made Computer print-out photos, are NOT accepted.
Regardless what you might read or hear elsewhere, we want you to attach the photo to your DS-156. This is the only photo we need. If needed, cut it out from adjoining photos.

HAND WRITTEN APPLICATIONS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED! AFTER FILLING IN THE EMPTY FIELDS, CLICK CONTINUE AND PRINT OUT THE GENERATED FORM. HOW DO I KNOW I HAVE THE RIGHT FORM? THE COMPLETED FORM IS THREE PAGES. PAGE THREE CONTAINS A THICK 3D BARCODE.
IMPORTANT! You must sign your document before sending in your application
- COMPLETED DS-157 APPLICATION FORM
- Letter (Diplomatic note) from your employer confirming your travel plans
- ENVELOPE: Please send a self addressed stamped envelope (stamps worth 61 SEK must be put on envelope) for the return of your passport. Note: Some envelopes sold by Posten can cost 61 SEK. These are NOT adequate for mailing your passport, unless you affix additional postage! The postage must total 61 SEK.
