CHECKLIST FOR U.S. CITIZENS WHO WISH TO FILE THE IMMEDIATE RELATIVE PETITION ON BEHALF OF ALIEN SPOUSE AND/OR MINOR CHILD:
The U.S. citizen petitioner must come in person and bring the following items. Please note that the alien spouse is not required to accompany the U.S. citizen at this initial visit.
1. Evidence of residence requirement:
• A copy of the Swedish residence stamp from the passport
• An extract from the population register (“Personbevis”) obtained from the Swedish tax administration, Skatteverket phone number: 0771-567 567.
2. Form I-130 completed and signed
3. Biographical form G-325 A for both the U.S. citizen and the alien spouse (only one each). Please also attach one (1) passport photo to the biographical information
4. Original U.S. passport and original Swedish passport. Please note that we will return the passports to you the same day.
5. Official Marriage certificate from the country where the Marriage took place. Please note that if the Marriage took place in Sweden, the Marriage certificate must be obtained from the Swedish Tax Agency (a “Personbevis” for the applicant including the name of U.S. spouse). Please request the English version.
6. Court certified copy of divorce decree(s) if applicable. Please note that if the divorce decree is not in English, the petitioner must also provide an authorized translation into English.
7. Fee $355 (cash or credit card).
8. If filing a petition on behalf of a minor child, the U.S. petitioner must bring a birth certificate for the child that includes the names of both parents. If the child was born in Sweden, the U.S. petitioner must bring an extract from the population register (“Personbevis”) for the child. Please request the English version.
Please complete all forms to the best of your ability prior to your visit to the Embassy. No appointment is needed for U.S. citizens who wish to file I-130 petitions on behalf of their spouse and/or minor child. We are open to the public between 9-11 AM, Monday through Thursday. Please note that the Immigrant Visa Unit is closed on Fridays, and on U.S. and Swedish holidays.
