The American Citizen Services (ACS) unit of the Consular Section provides information and assistance to U.S. citizens in Sweden.

Services Provided include:

• U.S. passport issuance;
• Reporting the birth of a child in Sweden to a U.S. citizen;
• Social security numbers;
• Tax information;
• Voting assistance;
• Notarization of documents;
• Children's issues; and,
• Emergency services for American citizens, etc.

Hours of Operation

The American Citizen Services Unit is located in the Consular Section of the American Embassy. We are open to the public between 9 and 11AM, Monday through Friday, except for Swedish and American holidays.

Please note that the American Citizen Services Unit will be closed for business on Friday, November 27, 2009, due to renovations.

No appointment is required when renewing a passport or to have a document notarized, but for certain services an appointment is necessary, e.g. to report the birth of a child in Sweden to a U.S. citizen parent. Please read the instructions in the left column for the service in question to determine if you need to make an appointment before visiting us.

Emergency Contact Information

In the case of a life or death emergency involving a United States citizen call +46 (0)8 783 5300 during office hours, and +46 (0)8 783 5300 after hours. A Consular Duty Officer is available 24 hours a day.
