Bloomberg New Energy Finance recently released a study showing that global investments in clean energy reached $260 billion in 2011, 5 percent higher than in 2010 and almost five times the $53.6-billion in 2004. Solar energy investments rose 36 percent to $136.6 billion.

Scientists from the University of Gothenburg have launched a tool that uses the actual conditions to determine the maximum possible magnitude of solar incidence - in a whole town, a neighbourhood, or a particular roof.
