U.S. Embassy Stockholm observes Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, 2009

In rememberance of the lives lost on September 11, 2001, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation recognizing September 11 a National Day of Service and Rememberance. The President said: "Originated by the family members of those who lost loved ones on 9/11, the National Day of Service and Remembrance is an opportunity to salute the heroes of 9/11, recapture the spirit of unity and compassion that inspired our Nation following the attacks, and rededicate ourselves to sustained service to our communities."

Responding to President Obama's call, U.S. Embassy Stockholm volunteered to do community service at one of Stockholm's leading charity organizations.

Ambassador and Mrs. Matthew Barzun led a team of volunteers from the Embassy and helped paint a half-way house for transient men and women in Stockholm. To see the results, please see this video clip.
